Aged 6-8 we need more friends for Matilda in our ensemble, all with stand out moments, join the project for the second week.

Reading, 9th-13th & 16th – 20th August – Tilehurst & Reading’s streets will be filled by the smell of rebellion when PQA Reading in Berkshire presents Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical JR., it was announced today by Drew Cohen, president and Chief Executive Officer of Music Theatre International. Based on the beloved book “Matilda” by Roald Dahl and adapted from the award-winning full-length musical, Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical JR. tells the story of anextraordinary girl who, armed with a vivid imagination and a sharp mind, dares to take a stand and change her own destiny.

Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical JR. is adapted from the full-length musical which was based on the book by Roald Dahl, and features a book by Dennis Kelly and music and lyrics by Tim Minchin. The show opened on the West End in 2011 and made its Broadway premiere in 2013. The musical earned seven Olivier Awards, including “Best New Musical,” and five Tony awards, including The Tony for “Best Book of a Musical.” 

Matilda, a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence and psychokinetic powers, lives with cruel parents who find her to be a nuisance, a lousy little worm, and a bore. When Matilda enters her first term at school, she captures the attention of Miss Honey, a kind teacher, and the two form a wonderful friendship. Unfortunately, the school is ruled by a tempestuous and mean headmistress named Miss Trunchbull, who hates children and delivers cruel and unjust punishments to all her charges. Matilda is determined to change her story, but will her cleverness and courage be enough to withstand the reign of Miss Trunchbull?

Producer:

Doug Kirby

After raising a family putting acting on hold, Doug found himself drifting into Film production, winning Best Director for Edge at iFilmmaker Marbella, a one-shot short ( now on Amazon Prime). In 2019 he produced and 1st AD the feature film The Black Spot available on Troma Now in which he has a small cameo.

He has written/adapted and Directed several stage productions since college for provincial theatre, in 2017 returning to the stage touring Polly Stenham’s ‘That Face’ as Hugh, initially in theatres then to A’level colleges and a 4 star review at Edfringe. In 2018 with Stage D’Or productions - After Today, achieved 5 stars at edfringe Directing and in 2019 took 2 new plays with them to Edinburgh Fringe (Directing again), both achieving multiple 4 star reviews and whilst there creatively consulted on another 4 star show. He is Principal at the local Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts, PQA Reading, and is in Pre Production on several projects for the Silver screen and Stage.

Choreographer:

Jenna Molloy - started her career at the age of 7 starring as 'Etty' in the film 'Charles Darwin' for US Boston Productions before playing the role of 'Young Princess Margaret' in ITV's 'Bertie and Elizabeth’.

Jenna trained professionally in Musical Theatre at Performers College. Since graduating she has worked as a Dancer, Singer and Dance Captain and has travelled to Paris, China, Poland, Romania, Dubai, Malaysia and Bahrain. Jenna spent two years touring in theatres and arenas across the UK as part of CHANNEL 5’ 'Milkshake Live! The Magic story book.'

She has most recently been onboard the MS Boudicca cruise ship as a dancer/singer as part of the show company. Jenna loves working as a teacher and seeing the students grow in confidence and as performers whilst having fun!

 

Vocal Coach

David Thompson - started out in Blue Group at PQA Bradley Stoke in 2009, moving up through to Red Group and now up to PQA teaching staff!

Dave recently graduated with a BA Hons. in Acting for Stage & Screen at PPA Guildford Drama School having graduated from Read School, Reading.

He has always had a passion for Acting, which PQA has helped him thrive in! He has many years of experience on stage and screen both professionally and non-professionally has stared in a current web series and worked on feature films as a production runner.

David also tutors as a singing and vocal coach. He can honestly say there is nowhere he'd rather be!
